Hummingbird Bath

Hummingbird Bath came soon after finishing my third fountain.  I really started to enjoy what I was doing.  New ideas started to come to my mind for different looking fountains.  Still I kept to some of the original concepts, a glazed water bowl, round base and tubing for supplying the water.  In this fountain I took the copper base and expanded my work on it by bending over the edges, hammering  rock patterns to give it depth and texture.  Then instead of fifteen or so tubes for water I made it with only five.  Looking around the garden I picked up the pattern of the fortnight lilies we have in the garden.  These leaves were soldered to the tubes with slight creases in them to stiffen them up.  To complete the fountain I cut out and soldered Lillie Pads as little basins for the water to spill out into.  The pad would then fill up and create a slow splash.

This fountain sat on my deck for several weeks prior to giving it to my son as a house warming present.  During that time daily observations proved that the hummingbirds in the area loved this one even more than the tubed fountains.  Here they could land in the pad, drink slowly and splash around as long as they wanted.  A new aspect to future fountains was found.

Description:  5 fountains with leaves and petals that extend up approximately 12".  Hammered copper base that leaves approximately two inches free from sides.

Dimensions:  27" diameter 12" tall glazed water basin.  Leaves and petals up approx 12".

All sculptures are unique.  The picture above represents what yours may look like when it is completed especially for you.
